Main Menu Music
We Are Watching | Black Banshee Studios
My Role: Composer and Sound Designer
Tasks: Create and master music for Main Menu
Tools Used: Logic Pro

While creating the music for We Are Watching, I leaned on my study of audio in video games. Current research suggests that game audio, specifically music, can have a significant psychological impact on the emotions of a person while playing a game (Tyler, 2023), so I wanted to make sure that this music pulled on the emotions of the player. The mood of the music was created to build full immersion into a horror-based game, and research has shown that good sound design and music can immerse a player (Anderson, Danny, King, Gunawan, 2021).

Office Sound Effects & Ambience
We Are Watching | Black Banshee Studios
My Role: Sound Designer
Tasks: Create ambience and basic office sound effects
Tools Used: Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Zoom H5

In creating the soundscape for this game, I really wanted to fully immerse the players. By creating sounds that are realistic to the environment and actions of the game, a player might become more immersed (Livaja, 2022).

Gameplay Radio Music
We Are Blob | Black Banshee Studios
My Role: Sound Design and Composer
Tasks: Create radio music
Tools Used: Logic Pro

When creating the music for We Are Blob, it was meant to build a very relaxing radio experience for the player. In general, music stimulates brain activity and can also improve moods (Global Council on Brain Health, 2020). This can be shown through the soothing, gentle melodies I created for the radio on We Are Blob.

Gameplay Music and Sound Effects
CECO - Ice Cream Stacker | CelleC Studios
My Role: Sound Designer and Composer
Tasks: Create gameplay music, cone shuffle and topping sfx
Tools Used: Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Zoom H5

The Ice Cream Stacker game for CECO was a unique project with simple tasks where I really needed to be careful that what I was creating was not distracting, disorienting or harmful. Through careful research I was able to come to some design choices that would create an immersive environment while also helping players to improve their performance. Creating sound design that was not distracting, but rather simple and paired well with what was happening on screen, allows the players to be immersed properly and have better opportunities for outcomes and growth (Livaja, 2022; Natasha Singh, 2022; Siu-Lan Tan, 2014).

Interactive Gameplay Music
CECO - Harmonies and Therapies | CelleC Studios
My Role: Sound Designer and Composer
Tasks: Create playable interactive music
Tools Used: Logic Pro

The Harmonies and Therapies music is interactive in this game, so it was extremely important to me that it was not distracting, helped better performance goals, and helped in the mental load of the therapy these players were doing. Some of my research was found after creating this music but includes a study that found that making and listening to music actually creates a positive change in Health-Related Quality of Life, or HRQOL (McCrary et al., 2022) which can be related to that help in therapy. A study done on the effect of music on cognitive performance shows that music can improve performance on simple tasks, which this game consisted of (Gonzalez, Aiello, 2019).
